Roman Holiday II

There are some things one has to keep in mind when being a tourist.  For example,  consider the Trevi Fountain.  This is one of Rome’s iconic sites, not only because it is a completely over the top baroque masterpiece, but also because it is frequently a backdrop in movies set in Rome (like this scene from La Dolce Vita).

But when we encountered the fountain for the first time, we didn’t see gleaming marble and sparkling water.  We saw this.

Returning the next morning at 8:30, the crowd was a bit more manageable.

Timing is everything.
