The other day while were wandering around Portobello Market I stumbled across Books for Cooks, a charming charming bookstore dedicated to, well, cooks.    It’s nearly directly across the street from the more famous Notting Hill Bookshop where Julia Roberts met Hugh Grant in Notting Hill.

One of the things you do when traveling is to visit museums and since my true love and I are in London, we are visiting museums.  While walking through Oxford University’s Ashmolean Museum I was struck by how often the objects were connected to food.

London is famous for its markets but London markets are often more like flea markets than farmer’s markets.  Some of the more famous are Camden, Spitalfields, Petticoat Lane, Portobello Road, and Brick Lane but there are dozens.  I first visited Portobello Road about ten years

One of the side dishes I make frequently (with improvisations) combines sautéed onions with mushrooms and a little Dijon mustard. I’ll use sweet onions, yellow onions, or leeks, vary the type of mushroom, maybe add some sherry or white wine vinegar, and will sometimes sauté
